Welcome to the Potty Festival website! The Potty Festival is the place to be for Morris dancing and folk music in Sheringham, North Norfolk. It takes place in early July every year, and has been attracting large numbers of dancers, musicians, residents and tourists since it was established in 1993.

Named after Sheringham’s ‘Lobster Potties’ Morris side, the festival has taken place in the town for the past 30 years.

The event will see almost 40 sides dancing through the town, each showcasing various Morris forms. Folk sessions will be running at Holt Rugby Club on Friday and Saturday night and a ‘sing around’ will take place at the town’s Little Theatre from 8pm on Friday. On Saturday, there will be dancing at 11 venues throughout the town, starting with a grand parade at 10am. The Sheringham Shantymen will also be performing at Lifeboat Plain and at the Lobster Pub on the day. On Sunday four venues will see more activity from 10.30am to 2pm.

In 2023, From Newcastle to Norwich and from Laxfield to Leicester they, hopped, skipped and jumped their way to Sheringham to celebrate a festival of folk music and dancing.  37 groups of people showcased the real diversity that this art form supports and demonstrated the huge variety of forms of Morris dancing to delighted crowds who thronged to the town to support the weekend. For the uninitiated, this can include Molly, Rapper, Mummer, Cotswold, North West and Welsh Border styles of dance.
