SUMMARY:Norfolk Restaurant Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:This is Norfolk’s largest dining event\, a culinary celebration of our vibrant restaurant scene\, fine food\, and the people who produce it returns in the Autumn of 2026. Whether you’re a seasoned foodie or just someone who appreciates a cracking meal without the eye-watering bill\, Norfolk Restaurant Week 2026 is the highlight of the autumnal calendar. \n \nAs the North Sea breeze begins to bite and the Norfolk skies turn that particular shade of “moody flint\,” there is no better refuge than a candlelit bistro or a roaring pub fire. This year\, we’re back to celebrate the incredible larder of our county—from Brancaster mussels to Binham Blue—bringing you the finest dining experiences at prices that make a second glass of wine feel like a very sensible executive decision. \n \nNorfolk Restaurant Week 2026: A Celebration of Local Flavour\nAs the crisp November air settles over the salt marshes and the Norfolk landscape transitions into its rugged winter coat\, the county’s premier culinary event returns. Norfolk Restaurant Week 2026 stands as a testament to the region’s vibrant food scene\, offering a fortnight of exceptional dining that celebrates both local produce and the skill of the county’s finest chefs. \nFrom the bustling streets of Norwich to the quiet\, flint-walled pubs of the coast\, the event provides an opportunity for diners to experience high-end gastronomy at a significantly more accessible price point. It is a period when the “larder of England” truly shines\, highlighting seasonal staples such as Brancaster mussels\, game from local estates\, and the celebrated cheeses of the Norfolk plains. \n\n\nThe 2026 Schedule\nIn Previous years the event is scheduled to run across two working weeks: \n\n\nWeek One: Monday 2nd – Friday 6th November \n\n\nWeek Two: Monday 9th – Friday 13th November \n\n\nDuring this time\, participating establishments offer unmissable\, fixed-price menus. These are typically structured in two tiers\, allowing guests to choose between two or three courses. The initiative is designed to support the local hospitality industry during the quieter autumnal months while rewarding the loyalty of local residents and visiting food enthusiasts alike. \nHow the Event Operates\n\n\nSelection: The full list of participating venues is released via the official website in the weeks leading up to the event. \n\n\nReservations: Bookings are made directly with the chosen restaurant. Due to the event’s popularity\, early reservation is highly recommended. \n\n\nThe Menu: Diners must specify their intent to dine from the “Restaurant Week” menu at the time of booking to ensure the promotional rates are applied. \n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\nIs advance booking required? It is considered essential. While some venues may accommodate walk-ins if space permits\, Norfolk Restaurant Week is notoriously popular. To avoid disappointment\, tables should be secured well in advance. \nAre the menus available during the weekend? The event runs strictly from Monday to Friday. This structure is designed to support businesses during their mid-week periods. Standard menus typically apply on the intervening Saturday and Sunday. \nDo the fixed-price menus offer smaller portions? The portions remain consistent with the restaurants’ standard offerings. The event is an opportunity for chefs to showcase their signature style and quality; therefore\, diners can expect the same generous standards found on an à la carte menu. \nWhen are the menus published? Menus are typically made available online once a restaurant confirms its participation. This allows diners to browse the specific seasonal dishes on offer before making a reservation. \nAre dogs permitted at participating venues? Norfolk is a notably dog-friendly county\, and many participating pubs and bistros welcome four-legged guests. However\, policies vary by establishment. It is advised that diners check the specific listing for the “dog-friendly” icon or contact the venue directly before arrival. \nAre dietary requirements accommodated? Participating chefs are generally well-equipped to handle various dietary needs\, including vegetarian\, vegan\, and gluten-free options. Guests are encouraged to notify the restaurant of any specific allergies or requirements at the time of booking to ensure a seamless dining experience. \nNote for 2026 Visitors: Because the menus rely heavily on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients\, they remain subject to change based on daily availability from Norfolk’s farmers and fishermen. \nDon’t Forget to Check Out the LoveNorfolk Guide to Best Restaurants & Pubs on The North Norfolk Coast \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Blakeney Greasy Pole 2026
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Blakeney Sailing Regatta which runs over the whole weekend\, the greasy pole dates back well over a hundred years to 1873 when the prize for winning was a hog. \n \nThe Blakeney Greasy Pole stands as one of Norfolk’s most eccentric and enduring maritime traditions. Held annually as a centrepiece of the Blakeney Regatta\, this event draws crowds to the picturesque quay to witness a spectacle that is equal parts skill\, slapstick\, and North Sea mud. \nThe premise is deceptively simple: a lengthy timber pole is heavily coated in lard and suspended horizontally over the water from the side of a moored barge. Participants must navigate the treacherous\, slippery surface to reach the end. While the physical goal is to snatch a prize—traditionally a leg of mutton\, though now usually represented by a flag—the true objective for the spectators is to watch the inevitable\, undignified plunges into the harbour below. \nManaged by the Blakeney Old Wild Boys\, the event preserves a sense of Victorian coastal fun. It is a celebration of community spirit where local bravery is tested against the laws of friction\, providing a hilarious highlight to the village’s summer calendar. \n\n \nFrequently Asked Questions\nWhat is the history of the Greasy Pole?\nThe event has been a staple of the Blakeney Regatta for over a century. Traditionally\, greasy poles were common in coastal towns across the UK\, often used to test the balance and agility of sailors. In Blakeney\, the tradition has been fiercely protected by local families and the Regatta committee\, maintaining its status as a “must-see” local custom. \nHow does the competition work?\nContestants take turns attempting to walk\, crawl\, or slide along the grease-covered pole. The pole is suspended over the water at high tide to ensure a safe (if muddy) landing. The winner is the first person to successfully reach the end and retrieve the prize without falling into the harbour. \nWhat is the prize for winning?\nIn years past\, the victor would claim a leg of mutton tied to the end of the pole—a substantial prize for a working-class family. In the modern era\, the mutton has largely been replaced by a symbolic flag\, which the winner then exchanges for a trophy\, a voucher\, or a cash prize. \nWho can enter the event?\nEntry is typically open to the public\, though participants are usually divided into categories based on age. It is a popular challenge for both locals and brave visitors. Entrants are advised that they will get wet and will likely be covered in a fair amount of grease and harbour silt by the end of their attempt. \nWhat should participants wear?\nThere is no formal dress code\, but most competitors opt for old clothes they don’t mind ruining. Tight-fitting swimwear or gym gear is often preferred over baggy clothing\, which can become heavy and cumbersome once wet. Fancy dress is also a common sight\, adding to the festive atmosphere. \nIs it safe?\nThe event is closely monitored by the Regatta organisers. It is timed to coincide with high tide to ensure the water is deep enough for a safe fall. However\, the pole is exceptionally slippery\, and the quay can be crowded; participants enter at their own risk and are expected to be confident swimmers. \nPart of the Blakeney Sailing Regatta which runs over the whole weekend\, the greasy pole dates back well over a hundred years to 1873 when the prize for winning was a hog.

SUMMARY:Bayfield Hall Sculpture Trail
DESCRIPTION:Set against the timeless backdrop of the Glaven Valley in North Norfolk\, the 5th annual Bayfield Hall Sculpture Trail returns from 16th September to 18th October 2026. This year\, the trail invites visitors to journey through the evocative theme of “Ritual”\, exploring the universal human impulse to create meaning through repetition\, gesture\, and connection to the natural world. \n \nIn an era of rapid change and digital noise\, the 2026 theme of ‘Ritual@  seeks to ground us in the physical and the spiritual. Curated by Sarah Cannell and produced by Creative Odyssey CIC\, the exhibition features over 45 contemporary artists from across the UK. Their works delve into rituals of celebration\, remembrance\, and renewal. Artists have been encouraged to respond not only to the concept of ritual but to the specific “spirit of place” at Bayfield. You will find installations that honour the rhythms of the seasons\, the cycles of decay and growth\, and the quiet\, daily routines of the flora and fauna that inhabit these three acres of private grounds. \nThe Experience\nThe trail offers a unique opportunity to explore parts of the Bayfield Hall estate usually closed to the public. The circular walk takes you through: \n\n\nThe Wildflower Gardens: Where delicate\, site-specific works interact with the vibrant late-summer blooms. \n\n\nAncient Woodland: Sheltering larger-scale sculptures that play with light and shadow amongst the trees. \n\n\nThe Ruined Chapel: Perhaps the most poignant site for the theme of “Ritual\,” where the remains of the family chapel provide a sacred architecture for reflective art. \n\n\nThe River Glaven: The trail overlooks this rare chalk stream\, offering a sense of tranquillity that complements the meditative nature of the artworks. \n\n\nThe experience concludes at the Old Stables\, which houses a dedicated Pop-Up Gallery featuring smaller 3D works and sketches by the trail artists\, alongside the permanent Decorative Antiques and Interiors shops. \n\n \nFrequently Asked Questions (FAQ)\n\nWhen is the trail open? \nThe trail runs from Wednesday\, 16th September to Sunday\, 18th October 2026. It is open Wednesday to Sunday\, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (last entry at 4:00 pm). Please note the trail is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. \nHow much are tickets and do I need to book? \nTickets are £8 for adults\, and entry is free for under-18s. While tickets are often available at the gate\, pre-booking via the official website is recommended to ensure entry during busy weekend periods. \nIs the trail accessible for wheelchairs or pushchairs? \nThe trail covers approximately 3 acres of natural terrain\, including woodland paths and grassed areas. While much of the trail is accessible in dry weather\, some sections may be uneven or muddy. All-terrain pushchairs are recommended. \nAre dogs allowed? \nYes\, well-behaved dogs are very welcome but must be kept on a short lead at all times to protect the local wildlife and the integrity of the sculptures. \nIs there food and drink available? \nYes! The Natural Surroundings Wildflower Café is located on-site\, offering a range of refreshments\, seasonal lunches\, and cakes. There is also a beautiful plant nursery to explore nearby. \nWhere is the event located? \nThe trail is held at Bayfield Hall\, Bayfield\, near Holt\, Norfolk\, NR25 7JN. Follow the brown signs for “Natural Surroundings” or “Bayfield Antiques” from the A148. \nCan I purchase the sculptures? \nMost of the artworks on the trail are available for purchase. For those interested in buying a piece or commissioning an artist\, price lists and contact details are available in the trail guide and at the pop-up gallery in the Old Stables. \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Pink Footed Geese at Snettisham
DESCRIPTION:The dawn flight of up to 40\,000 pink-footed geese that make their way from Iceland and Greenland to gather on the The Wash in one of the best nature spectacles in Europe.. The arrival of the Pink-footed Geese in Snettisham has come to herald the start of the Autumn and Winter season for many bird-watchers and nature lovers. \n \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL9UWZ2K9gU \nExperience the “Heaven Hounds” of the North Norfolk Coast\nEvery winter\, the Norfolk skyline undergoes a dramatic transformation. From October 2026 through February 2027\, over 100\,000 Pink-footed Geese migrate from Iceland and Greenland to the Norfolk coast. Known as the “Heaven Hounds” because of their high-pitched\, evocative “wink-wink” calls that echo through the clouds\, this migration is widely considered the most impressive wildlife event in the UK. \nThe real magic happens at dawn and dusk. As the sun rises over the Wash\, tens of thousands of geese take flight simultaneously from their nighttime roosts on the mudflats to feed in the inland sugar beet fields. The sound of thousands of wings beating in unison\, paired with the cacophony of their calls\, is a sensory experience that stays with you forever. \nKey Viewing Locations for 2026: \n\n\nRSPB Snettisham: Famous for the “Snettisham Spectacular\,” where the tide pushes the birds closer to the shore. \n\n\nHolkham National Nature Reserve: Ideal for seeing vast skeins of geese against the backdrop of the pine woods and sand dunes. \n\n\nCley Marshes & NWT Holme Dunes: Excellent alternative spots for those seeking a quieter experience away from the main crowds. \n\n\n\n3. Visitor Information & Costs\nUnlike a theater show\, the geese spectacle is a natural event with no “ticket price” for the birds themselves. However\, planning for parking and reserve access is essential. \n\n\n\nLocation\nEntry Fee\nParking (Non-Members)\nBest For\n\n\n\n\nRSPB Snettisham\nFree\n£7.00 (Free for RSPB members)\nThe Dawn Flight\n\n\nHolkham Reserve\nFree\nApprox. £5.00 – £10.00 (Hourly)\nDusk Skeins\n\n\nNWT Cley Marshes\n£5.00 (Permit)\nIncluded in Permit\nWetland Variety\n\n\n\n\n \n4. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)\nWhen is the best time to see the Pink-footed Geese in Norfolk? \nThe peak season is from November to early January. While the birds begin arriving in October\, the largest numbers are present during the coldest months. For the best experience\, arrive at the coast at least 30 minutes before sunrise to catch the dawn flight. \nWhere is the best place to see the Snettisham Spectacular in 2026? \nThe RSPB Snettisham reserve is the premier spot. To see the birds pushed up onto the pits\, you must check the tide tables. Look for “Spring Tides” (the highest tides) during the morning for the most dramatic displays. \nWhat should I bring for a winter bird-watching trip? \n\n\nWarm Layers: The Norfolk coast is notoriously windy and cold in winter. \n\n\nBinoculars: Essential for seeing the formations in detail. \n\n\nA Torch: For navigating the paths to the hides in the dark before dawn. \n\n\nSturdy Boots: Paths can be muddy and uneven. \n\n\nAre the geese there every day? \nYes\, they remain in Norfolk throughout the winter\, but their behavior depends on the weather and moon cycles. On bright\, full-moon nights\, the geese may feed all night and move at different times\, whereas on dark\, cold mornings\, the dawn flight is more predictable. \nIs it suitable for photographers? \nAbsolutely. The “V-formations” (skeins) against a pink or orange sunrise provide some of the best wildlife photography opportunities in Europe. We recommend a fast telephoto lens to capture the birds in flight. \nA good place to stay? \nMagazine Wood is not only directly under the flight lines to Snettisham Reserve to see the birds return at dusk but also just a short drive away when visiting at dawn. \nDirectly below the Snettisham roost flight lines\, Magazine Wood is the perfect place to stay.
